Hey tech enthusiasts and travel lovers! We (Larry and Alicia) recently had the absolute honor of hosting Mint from the massive Thai travel channel I Roam Alone for a futuristic tech tour right here in Shanghai. If you thought the future was still decades away, think again—Shanghai is living in it right now.
We wanted to show Mint exactly how AI, robotics, and smart tech are transforming our daily lives. From robotic chefs to singing in driverless cars, let’s dive into the absolute highlights of our sci-fi adventure!

🍜 Michelin-Star... Robot Chefs?
We started the day grabbing a bite, but not just anywhere! We took Mint to a high-tech kitchen where the "chefs" are massive, automated robotic arms [03:31]. These robots can be programmed to boil, fry, and steam up to 24 different dishes with insane efficiency. Mint even tried a bowl of Tom Yum noodles cooked entirely by the machine [05:38]! While she noted it might lack that emotional "grandma's home cooking" touch, the standardized flavor and speed are game-changers for the fast-paced city life.
🖐️ Who Needs a Wallet? Just Use Your Palm!
Next up, we hit a convenience store to show off Shanghai's ultra-seamless payment tech. Forget your wallet, and forget your phone—we showed Mint how to pay using just her palm and face [08:28]! It’s the ultimate convenience. If it's freezing outside or your phone battery dies, your hand is literally all you need to shop.
🐶 Cyber Dogs and Real-Life Iron Man Suits
You can't do a tech tour without playing with some robots! We introduced Mint to some seriously cool humanoid robots and robot security dogs [10:35]. But the real fun began when Mint strapped on a heavy-duty exoskeleton [12:05]. Suddenly, lifting a 15kg weight felt incredibly light! She even tested out a lower-body exoskeleton designed to help users climb stairs effortlessly [13:22]. We basically turned her into Iron Man for the afternoon! 🦸♀️
🚁 Fast Food, Literally Dropped from the Sky
Craving a snack? Just look up. We gave Mint a taste of Shanghai's drone delivery network [15:07]. We placed an order, and within minutes, a drone buzzed down from the sky to drop off our food [16:13]. The best part? The french fries were still hot [16:33]! It is so fast and efficient that it feels like pure magic.
🚖 The Ultimate Race: Robo-Taxi vs. Human Driver
To get around the Pudong district, we decided to host a little race. We called a completely driverless Robo Taxi [19:59] to race against a traditional human-driven cab. Mint hopped in the Robo Taxi, which uses a network of advanced radars to safely navigate around bikes, pedestrians, and traffic. The ride was incredibly smooth, the braking was gentle [21:16], and its drop-off precision ultimately won the day [25:03]!
🎤 First-Class Massages and EV Karaoke!
China's Electric Vehicle (EV) scene is on another level, so we had to end the day in luxury. We showed Mint the ZEEKR EV, which boasts automatic doors, built-in seat massages, and a TV screen—basically a first-class lounge on wheels [25:54]. Afterward, we hopped into a NIO EV to show off its best feature: a built-in KTV (Karaoke) mode [28:36]! We belted out a classic Chinese song together, complete with a hilarious Minion voice filter that had us all cracking up [29:45].
We had the absolute best time showing Mint around our city and giving her a glimpse into what the world might look like 100 years from now. Shanghai truly is a sandbox for the future!
